Centralia to Castle Rock
46 miles, 4 hrs 20 min
Surly ran about 4- not enough shoulder on the flats for much more...and didn't want her slowing me down on the downhills on the rolling hills, making it harder to get up the next hill.

We started the day running a few errands- first to get more toothpaste, then by a bike shop for more tubes. Very tiny shop- but nice mechanic who let us borrow the floor pump for our tires. We were pretty excited about the weather- it was supposed to be up into the 40s, mostly sunny, and mostly flat riding. Lo and behold- not long after leaving the bike shop the clouds came out, we started a long climb, where at the top it began to snow.

Up and up and up today- lots of up. The cold really makes it near impossible for me to breathe-one time I did have to stop half way up a hill to catch my breath enough to use my fast acting inhaler so I could finish. My legs didnt start to get sore until 35 miles or so- just over 3 hours. Cook though definitely has a harder time with the hills than I do though- since he doesn't even have the option of unloading 40 lbs of carg to run along side!

It continued to snow pretty much all day- at lunch we had to get on rain gear since we were getting too wet and still had over 20 miles to go. But of course- about a half hour later it stopped snowing for a while- making the not so breathable rain gear extra uncomfortable.

We also got to see our first BIG trees today riding though Lewis and Clark state park where there was a nice patch of old growth forest. Most every other tree has either been cut down, or is part of a forest being grown to be harvested later.

Lots of cows again today-but some that were right ont he road while Surly was out running- made her VERY excited... a heard of 4-5 got up and started running away at one point- she couldn't help but bark and try to run after them.

We pulled into our motel just as it started to pour-again the nighttime temps are predicted to be around 20...

Hey - None of us need that Dr. Pierce's prescription for "Weak" women. We're all tough and strong! Can't believe you are in so much cold and snow. Stay warm.
